  1. The UK60A.EXE file you downloaded and ran contains the Microsoft 
  2. Word version 6.0a for Windows upgrade patch. This upgrade can be 
  3. used ONLY with the English/UK version of Word 6.0 for Windows on 
  4. a standalone installation.

  6. CAUTIONS
  7. ========
  8.  
  9. Do not attempt to use the patch for either a workstation or server 
  10. network installation. Please call the Microsoft subsidiary nearest 
  11. you to request a full set of upgrade diskettes if you wish to perform
  12. an upgrade on a network installation.
  13.  
  14. Do not attempt to use this patch to upgrade ANY other version of Word 
  15. 6.0 for Windows other than the English/UK version. Doing so on 
  16. any other version of Word 6.0, including the U.S. and Australian versions, 
  17. will create a corrupt installation. Use this patch to upgrade your 
  18. English/UK version only.

  20. INSTRUCTIONS
  21. ============

  23. To upgrade your English/UK version of Word for Windows using the patch, follow 
  24. these steps:
  25.  
  26. 1. Create an empty directory on your hard drive (for example C:\6PATCH).
  27.  
  28. 2. Copy the files SETUP.BAT and _MSETUP.EX_, expanded from UK60A.EXE,
  29.    to the empty directory.
  30.  
  31. 3. Run SETUP.BAT by either double-clicking on it in File Manager, 
  32.    or by typing "SETUP.BAT" at the DOS prompt.  This will expand 
  33.    the Word 6.0a patch files to your temporary directory. If you 
  34.    choose to run SETUP from the DOS prompt, ensure that your current 
  35.    directory is the one created in step 1 above, or that you include 
  36.    the path name to the directory, for example, C:\6PATCH\SETUP.BAT.

  38.    Note: Running SETUP.BAT does not perform the upgrade. It simply 
  39.    prepares for the upgrade by creating two sub-directories, \HELP 
  40.    and \REG, then expands the files required to perform the upgrade.

  42. 4. Open UPGRADE.DOC in Word 6.0 and read the instructions before 
  43.    performing the actual upgrade procedure. Also, consider printing 
  44.    a copy of UPGRADE.DOC to refer to during the upgrade procedure. 
  45.    UPGRADE.DOC contains troubleshooting information you may need to 
  46.    use if you encounter any difficulties performing the upgrade.

  48. 5. Perform the upgrade procedure as specified in UPGRADE.DOC.

  50. 6. After you successfully upgrade to Word 6.0a you can delete the 
  51.    temporary patch directory, created in step 1, and its contents.
